Altek Beissel brought German needle technology for the first time to India and continues the 150-year German tradition
Mr. LeoLammertz and
Mr. Stephan Beissel were the pioneers in Sewing machine needles
in Germany. The first to set up a factory for machine needles in Aachen, Germany was
Mr Stephan Beissel in 1850s and he was quickly followed by Mr. Leo Lammertz
Both these companies grew phenomenally and employed more than 15,000 persons at
their peak. In 1996, Altek entered into a joint venture with Lammertz who supplied,
machines, technology and trained our technicians in their German plant. Lammertz
bought back the needles from Altek in India and sold them all over the world
In 2003, Altek became an independent Indian company and extended production range to become one of just two companies in the world to manufacture entire range of Industrial and Home Sewing machine needles
Altek also acquired rights to the Beissel brand and changed the name to Altek Beissel Needles Limited. Altek now sells in three brands – Beissel Industrial, Beissel Home sewing and King for the popular range
The needles are sought after and has sold over a billion needles including to every continent around the world
Altek is proud that not only they brought this technology to India but acted as a catalyst in other German companies also moving to India after Altek demonstrated that Indians have the skill to produce a quality needle. Today, there is no Sewing machine needle factory in Germany at all
Altek has completed 25 years of operations in India and has just moved into a new state-of-the-art factory
